Thanksgiving NFL Games 2026: Schedule, TV and the Traditions That Return

Thanksgiving Day in 2026 is Thursday, November 26. The NFL holiday slate has Chicago at Detroit, Philadelphia at Dallas, and Kansas City at Buffalo. Detroit and Dallas are the familiar Thanksgiving hosts, but their opponents change. There is no permanent Thanksgiving matchup that repeats unchanged every year.

Thanksgiving Day NFL games in 2026

These are the announced U.S. broadcasts, checked November 8, 2026. All kickoff times are Eastern Standard Time (EST, UTC−5). The NFL’s official 2026 schedule announcement identifies the holiday games and their networks.

Philadelphia Eagles at Dallas Cowboys4:30 p.m.FOX
Kansas City Chiefs at Buffalo Bills8:20 p.m.NBC

For Central time, those starts are noon, 3:30 p.m. and 7:20 p.m. For Pacific time, they are 10 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 5:20 p.m. Use the listed 1 p.m. Eastern Detroit kickoff for 2026 rather than assuming an earlier holiday start from a previous season.

Which teams play on Thanksgiving every year?

The useful shorthand is Detroit and Dallas host; the opponents vary. The Lions’ tradition began in 1934, their first season in Detroit, after owner George A. Richards moved the former Portsmouth Spartans. A Thanksgiving game helped put the new local team in front of fans at a time when the Tigers dominated the city’s sports attention. Detroit’s Thanksgiving run has a six-season gap from 1939 through 1944, so “every year since 1934” needs that qualification.

Dallas joined the holiday in 1966 and has missed it only in 1975 and 1977. The Pro Football Hall of Fame’s history explains both traditions. These longstanding host roles do not lock in Chicago as Detroit’s opponent or Philadelphia as Dallas’s opponent for every future Thanksgiving.

A third, evening game joined the holiday schedule in 2006. Unlike the traditional Detroit and Dallas games, its host rotates. The NFL describes that rotating night game separately from the two established hosts.

In 2026, Bears–Lions and Eagles–Cowboys are divisional matchups. Chiefs–Bills is the night game. Those pairings describe this season, not a rule for 2027. A yearly schedule release is the right source for the next holiday; copying a previous Thanksgiving’s matchups can leave a viewing plan wrong even when the familiar hosts are still present.

There is also Thanksgiving Eve and Black Friday football

The holiday week extends beyond Thursday in 2026. Green Bay Packers at Los Angeles Rams is scheduled for Wednesday, November 25, at 8 p.m. EST on Netflix. The league describes it as its first Thanksgiving Eve game. Denver Broncos at Pittsburgh Steelers follows on Friday, November 27, at 3 p.m. EST on Prime Video. These are separate from Thanksgiving Day’s three games, as confirmed in the NFL’s announcement.

For planning, Wednesday’s kickoff is 5 p.m. Pacific; Friday’s is noon Pacific. If your family says “the Thanksgiving games,” clarify whether they mean Thursday alone or the wider Wednesday-to-Friday stretch. That small distinction matters when choosing a dinner time or deciding which service you need.

Plan the holiday around the games, not guessed finish times

Kickoff times are useful anchors, but a game’s finishing time is not guaranteed. Avoid promising that dinner will start precisely when an afternoon game ends. Choose a meal time that works for everyone, and treat halftime or the gap between games as a bonus rather than a fixed appointment.

Before paying for a streaming plan, check whether the game is included in your country, whether your television or device is supported, and whether you already have access through a service you use. This guide lists U.S. network and platform assignments, not a promise that every subscription tier or international market includes every game.
