How to Clean an Air Fryer Without Scratching the Basket

Unplug the air fryer, let it cool, and wash the removable basket and insert with warm, soapy water if the manual permits it. Wipe the accessible interior, then dry everything before putting it back together. That routine takes care of most crumbs and grease after cooking. A basket-style air fryer has a drawer you pull out, while an oven-style model may have racks or a drip tray. Start by checking the care instructions for the exact parts you have. Remove crumbs before washing the basket

With the appliance cool, slide out the drawer over a surface you can wipe. Tip loose crumbs into the trash and lift out the crisping plate or insert if it is designed to come out. Separate parts only as the manual directs. Oil and small food fragments often collect under the insert and around its edges. If you only wipe the surface the food sits on, residue underneath can stay in the appliance for the next meal. Philips guidance on cleaning the pan and frying insert

Soften baked-on grease and use a soft sponge

Wash removable parts in warm water with mild dish soap and a soft sponge. For sticky residue, soak only the parts your manual allows you to submerge, then wipe again once the buildup softens. Metal scrubbers and rough scouring pads can scratch coated surfaces. If the manufacturer says the basket is dishwasher-safe, check whether that applies to the insert too. Wipe the cooled cavity and dry the parts

With the air fryer still unplugged, use a soft, lightly damp cloth to clean the accessible walls where the drawer slides in. Check the manual before touching the heating element. Some Philips models allow gentle cleaning around the element, but access and methods vary by model. Keep liquid out of vents and controls. Dry the basket, insert and any surfaces you wiped before reassembling. If you’re cleaning another small appliance, use its own instructions for the interior and any powered parts.
