Why the date changes
Federal law places Thanksgiving on the fourth Thursday in November. To find it on any calendar, locate the first Thursday and add three weeks. If November has five Thursdays, the holiday falls on the second-to-last Thursday. The date can land anywhere from November 22 to November 28.
What about the Friday after?
Black Friday falls on November 27, 2026. It is the day after Thanksgiving and has its own hours at stores, schools, and workplaces. Thanksgiving is the federal holiday listed by the Office of Personnel Management. Check the Friday schedule separately if you’re planning an appointment or trip.
