What to Order at a Bakery in Dubai

Start with khameer if you want a soft Emirati bread, or luqaimat if you want a sweet bite. Dubai bakeries and cafés serve breads and pastries from across the region, so the best order depends on whether you want breakfast, a snack, or dessert.

For a savory breakfast, look for manakish

Manakish is a Levantine flatbread. Look for za’atar if you want an herbal, tangy topping, or cheese if you prefer something milder. Ask whether it comes as a whole flatbread or a smaller individual portion.

For an Emirati bread, try khameer

Khameer is a soft, leavened bread. Try it plain first, or ask what fillings the bakery serves. If the menu also lists regag, that is the thinner, crisper option.

For dessert, order luqaimat

Luqaimat are small fried dumplings often finished with date syrup. They can show up on café and restaurant menus as well as at bakeries. A shared order lets you try them alongside a savory bread.

How to order for two

  1. Choose one savory flatbread, such as za’atar manakish.
  2. Add khameer or regag if you want to try an Emirati bread.
  3. Finish with a shared order of luqaimat if it’s on the menu.
